How to make satvik / sattvic thali
According to Ayurveda, India's classic medicinal science foods are grouped into three categories - sattvic, rajasic and tamasic.
What does sattvic /satvik food include?
A Sattvic diet is a pure vegetarian diet which includes seasonal fresh fruit, ample of fresh vegetables, whole grain, pulses, sprouts, dried nuts, seeds, honey, fresh herbs, milk and dairy products which are free from animal rennet.
What are not included in sattvic/satvik food?
If you're following this diet, you must avoid microwaved, genetically-modified, canned or processed foods. The sattvic diet also excludes all rajasic foods like spices, onions, garlic, chocolate, coffee, tea and deep-fried foods and tamasic foods like eggs, meat, fish, poultry and alcohol.
Sattvic Foods to Help Balance Your Body and Mind
A sattvic diet generally consists of:
Fresh, organic fruit and vegetables
Whole grains and nuts
Beans and lentils
Legumes
Plant-based oils
Coconuts
Cows milk
Butter
Ghee
Cheese
Yogurt
Mildly sweet foods (natural, unrefined sugars), honey, molasses
Spices such as cinnamon, basil, coriander, ginger and turmeric.
Today I made this satvik/sattvic thali that has roti, rice, dal, okra/bhindi vegetable, curd.
Its a everyday simple meal made in every house in India but I call this as satvik thali since it has no onion and garlic.
